Awake at 4am with a sick kiddo

Poor little bean is coughing so hard she can't help but to vomit. It's hard enough being a broke mommy, barely scraping by on rent, but now I am an anxious mommy waiting for a pawn shop to open to I can get her some cough medicine.

I am not sure if I have blogged this before or not, but I absolutely hate how much control my anxiety has on my life. I *hate* it. I am going to therapy as often as possible, I am learning new coping techniques, I am working on relaxation and breathing exercises almost constantly to keep myself under control. I am getting by with taking 2 - 3 Klonopin a day, but even at that, I am only taking it when I absolutely have to.

I know I can get it in check, I know I will, but the waiting and trying is just so damn hard. I am contemplating trying to get at least part time work at Mercy... it's close and I'll feel safe. If I can work that out and do it while Emma is in school, I just might have a shot at making something work and hopefully being less dependent on the child support that isn't being paid. In the mean time, life kind of sucks.

For now, my plan is to keep her comfortable and sleeping until either the Minute Clinic or Urgent Care are open, taking her to be seen and hopefully getting enough at pawn to give her the cough meds and other "feel better" items like breath right strips, etc. that I know help her when she feels this way. She has been such a good girl that I gave her $1.00 to take to school to buy cookies at lunch. It's pretty sad that I regret rewarding her good behavior now because I think with the $3.00 I had I might have been able to get at least a generic brand couch syrup for her.

This means she is going to miss her second day of school for the year. Last year she missed 16 days total with colds and the flu... to the point that they threatened me for truancy, I can't risk that this year, but what is a mom with a sick kid to do? Last year I didn't take her in each time she was sick, this year I plan to at least take her to the Minute Clinic (at a minimum) for medical documentation of whatever illnesses she comes down with. That was something I avoided last year trying to keep her colds from becoming more by being around other sick people and additional germs. I also plan to get her the flu shot if we can ever get a long enough window between colds.

ARG. I guess I am just really stressed, I should be sleeping, I know I should, but I can't. Emma and Steve however are snoring peacefully behind me on the bed, which I should take as a blessing.she's safe and secure snuggling daddy and I am at least mentally dealing with the logistics of getting her well. I am doing all I can, right? I think and hope I am. Although as I've said before, I am always open to suggestions, although I appreciate it if they're not in the form of criticism.

Emma snuggled in a bundle of blankets next to me.

Daddy crashed out next to her legs. Poor bean.

To whomever stuck this mini-book out and read it, thank you, it means a lot to me. Blogging has really become a great tool for me, to get things that I struggle with inside, out. I never thought my life would be such a struggle and I know it has to sound pretty dramatic. I know others have been through worse, but it is what it is and I am doing my best.

Emma hasn't been feeling well

So last night we swung into the Minute Clinic... no go. Urgent Care hasn't been open since then either and no "sick" appointments open at the clinic of course... So, we drug her into the E.R. or E.D. as they now call it, but I can't help but think of other things with those initials. >.< I blame commercials.

At any rate, my little doctor phobic sweet-pea did wonderfully.

Still in her street clothes.

My booty has to hang out why? So silly.
The listened to her lungs, looked in her ears, nose and throat, poked and prodded her and even swabbed her throat, all without one word of protest from my 57 (omg!) lb sweet-pea. I can't believe she weighs 57 lbs, that's like... over 10 times what she weighed when she was born.

At any rate, the rapid strep came back good and she was diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection and Sinus Congestion. He is wondering if she doesn't need her adenoids out, so he had us set up appointments with our Family Practice Doc to get a referral to an ENT... okay. lol

Emma did so wonderfully she got a special little bear from the E.D. nurse as we left, 3 stickers and lots of praise. She of course wants me to take pics so I'll probably edit this post later. Can't take the pics now, Bear is sleeping in her bed, all tucked in and sleepy from his E.D. visit, we wouldn't want to disturb his sleep for something silly like pictures.

All in all, Emma has a day off school, we have at least 2 appointments to make and a possible surgery coming up. Fun fun. Let's hope she keeps this great attitude/behavior towards the Docs.

Oh yeah baby, I got mine!

...

What were you thinking? I got my flu shot! Minds in the gutters, I tell ya. :p

We actually headed to the Minute Clinic to get Emma's throat looked at but they were booked until close, so we tried a couple others, same thing. Blah. She said it could wait but I didn't want the trip to be a complete waste so I stopped into Walgreen's and got my flu shot on. I let Emma watch so when I take her for hers she already knows it doesn't hurt. It seriously didn't hurt, at all. Not even a pinch. Either she's really good, or flu shots are that easy.

At any rate, with the flu statistics I've heard for this year, we're not taking any risks, all of my kids are getting one, like it or not. (They'll appreciate it in the long run, I am such a mean mommy.)

I think this will probably be my last post on this blog for the night... so have a great one!

And on a gorgeous day, what do we do?

Chill in the grass together. (Mommy and Emma)

Relax and enjoy.

Get up and dance.

Make funny faces for the camera.

Pretend like your mom would put you up for rent.
Pounce like a lion!

Lion dead.

What did you say mom?

Oh you want a big cheesy grin? Here!

And now... a frog.

And one of "those statues that spits water".

Speaking of water, need a drink.

And maybe a sammich! Ohh a picnic! Yay!

I don't know what y'all do on a nice day like today, but this is what we did. Right after school we came back home, parked our bums in the grass and had some outside fun, including a picnic. Now, mommy is blogging about it and Emma is kicking some bad guy butt on Lego Batman for the 360. That's my girl! I hope everyone else took a few minutes to get outside and enjoy the day, it was just beautiful.

Another beautiful day!

I have to take pleasure in something, it might as well be the gorgeous weather. I love fall! Actually, I love all of the seasons for one reason or another... but I can't wait for snow! Assuming I can keep the roof over our heads, that is going to be a fantastic winter.

Emma is off to school, she got a "Tryin' Lion" award on Friday, she's so happy she wants to try for one every day. Needless to say I am on board with that! I will have to come up with some sort of small reward system for her at home to celebrate when she receives these.

Today will be full of cleaning, unpacking, deciding what to pawn, and other fun stuff! I shouldn't complain though, I still have very little of our belongings moved here from storage, so it's pretty quick and easy to do.

A downside to unpacking slowly...

Emma has her first big "project" of the year at school. We have to make a tag board version of her, with pictures and stories to go with them. Photos need to be securely attached to the tag board her of course. Oi, I am going to have to dig through storage for the art and school supplies AND be creative.

She is supposed to decorate the head and it should look like her, I can see her frustration already. >.< Wish us luck! lol

Emma's scarf to be...

I hope she is going to like it. If I get good enough at making these, do you think people would buy them?

Happy Birthday Emma!!

I can't believe my babiest baby is 6 years old. She is going to start 1st grade this year... it's crazy! While we will be doing some packing today, I am not going to let my worries about the future darken her day.

Lil' Miss Emma freshly awake and being sung to,

Emma with her birthday breakfast cake.

The Cake

Eating cake in the living room while watching Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy!

Daddy and mommy stayed up making some simple decorations and we're hoping maybe Grams has balloons to bring this evening. I think we'll consider giving her presents throughout the day today... although maybe it's better to wait. I don't know. I can't believe my baby is 6!

Emma's Birthday Wishlist

It's pretty basic actually. If she's seen it on TV, she wants it and then add the basics... And of course daily she asks how many days left until her birthday. I am thinking of making her an event countdown of some sort... maybe just simple paper rings. August 26th is right around the corner now and you can tell she knows it lol.

So far I ordered her the pillow pet Unicorn... although I don't know that I had a size choice... and they were out of the blankets and bags to go with them. That is about all I've picked up so far.

Anyhow, for those that are interested, this isEmma's Birthday WishlistIt was an interesting challenge trying to help her create it, although it really does reflect her interests quite well.
